This is an extract of a piece inspired by the Rorschach test, a psychological method used to understand individuals thinking, emotional functioning and underlying thought disorders.
During the collective experience of isolation we have all had unique experiences in our responses to uncertainty, to stress and fear, to a different rhythm of life, to the physical conditions we find ourselves in.
Here Sophi has used films of fire, slowed down by 10000%, mirrored and blended to produce an unpredictable visual meditation with the desire to soothe and awaken people’s minds and acknowledge the rapid transformations we have made as opposed to fixate upon or analyse them.
Fire is something we have seen is massively destructive across history and in the very recent past. Fire is one of the reasons our species has come to develop in such technologically advanced ways and yet it’s consuming power is drawing us to habitat destruction. This piece is a small offering towards us transforming our relationship with it, changing from raw base demand, to deep fragile respect.
Made in a studio powered by renewable energy.
